The Plymouth Cultural Center is again hosting its popular 2025 Pumpkin Carving Contest, offering a great way for residents to show their artistic abilities. Registration for this free event is open now, making it easy for anyone to participate. Just register online to reserve your spot. Participants should carve their pumpkins at home and then bring them to the Plymouth Cultural Center by Monday, October 27th, at 2 pm, giving everyone enough time to prepare their creations.

This year’s contest has two main categories: Elementary/Pre-K and High School/Middle School, ensuring fair competition for all age groups. Winners in each category will receive gift cards for first, second, and third place, providing a strong motivation for creativity. Community members can vote for their favorite pumpkins between October 27th and 29th, from 4 pm to 6 pm, at Kellogg Park. If the weather is bad, voting will move inside to the Plymouth Cultural Center.

For those wanting to carve their pumpkins safely and effectively, here are a few key suggestions. Children aged 9-12 can participate with adult help and by using tools suitable for their age, while younger children can help with designing, removing seeds, or decorating. It is best to carve pumpkins close to Halloween, as they usually last about 3-5 days once carved, especially in cooler weather. Using special pumpkin carving kits is generally safer than large kitchen knives, particularly for younger artists. Always carve in a well-lit, stable area, working slowly and away from your body.

To ensure a successful carving experience, start by selecting a fresh pumpkin with a flat bottom and a strong stem. Wash the pumpkin well before you start. Planning your design ahead of time can prevent many problems. For easier carving, scrape the inside walls of the pumpkin to about 1 to 1.25 inches thick. Once your creation is finished, consider putting petroleum jelly on the carved edges to help keep it fresh. And don’t forget to save those pumpkin seeds for a tasty roasted snack!

The Plymouth Library is also joining the Halloween fun with a special Library Pumpkin Carving Event. This enjoyable session is planned for Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. It is the perfect chance for families to have some creative time together before the main day. The event will take place in The Flex Space, offering a comfortable and inspiring setting for everyone attending.

What makes this library event especially inviting is that they supply the pumpkins and carving tools, so you won’t need to bring much. All you need to bring is your imagination and excitement! This event is open to all ages, making it a great activity for young children, teens, and adults. It is a wonderful community gathering that celebrates the joy of the season through a traditional Halloween activity.
